when does transmission fluid service come up?

Is it approximately 30K or 60K miles? I am not talking about rear differential, just transmission ATF. If its 60K I think its too long.

I asked the service dept.--the person said 30,000, 60, 90,.....I don't know if it's accurate but it's what i have until further digging.

100k seems too long, my manual for 2001 CL says 90K for
Normal driving and 30K for severe, but I think most people do it
Every 30K. If dealer recommends every 30K its probably a good
Idea, you guys missed all the fun with acura CL/TL transmissions in
00-03, but it looks like RDX transmission is solid, did not see anyone
Complaining, still chaging tranny fluid every 30-45K regardlesss of
What computer says is a good idea
IMHO

30k seems to be the safe bet especially if you're on hilly roads. If you're a DIY, you can use the transmission fluid for the rear diff as well.

russianDude, I know that 100k seems to long. That's what I said when I read it. I think that's programmed into ther MID. However, on pg 334 of the maunual, it says.....under Maintenance Sub items...
3-"Replace trans. & transfer fluids..if driving in mountainous areas, at low speeds or trailer towing results in higher trans. & transfer fluid temps, more frequent changes are recommended. Have the trans. & transfer fluid changed at 60k miles, then 30k there after.
So, if regular drivng is done, I do believe it's set at 100k! (Id change it to synthetic type prob around 50k, for me!)

also, dewey22, that's exactly why you don't always go only by what those dealer service guys say. Look in the manual. It's written by / for the Acura engineers.

Just had mine changed for the first time last week at 52k. She was due for an engine oil change and her second rear diff fluid change. I figured why not buy a few more Honda ATF and change the transmission fluid also.

Just changed mine for the first time at 35k miles. Did the rear differential at 15k miles, based on recommendations from this forum.

Both are probably conservative, but I plan to keep this thing forever, I like it so much.

And I change the engine oil every 5k miles, regardless of what the computer says. For the first time, the computer started alerting me of low engine oil life remaining, as I approached 4500 miles in the cycle. First time it's ever happened, but probably because we did almost exclusively stop & go driving.

Lrpba3000,

Of course we shouldn't rely purely on the dealer's word. That's why I noted it's what the dealer said but it needed further digging. We're all trying to help each other here. You indicated 100k for the transmission change in your 9/15 post but also noted it needed more searching. Obviously that was incorrect at 100k. You could have checked the manual yourself at the time and spared us the post. Sometimes the manual is not all that clear on things. And you're right not to rely solely on the dealer's service dept. for information. But they aren't wrong about all things either.

uh, I'm the one that did go look up the manual info for the original poster. It's still not proven that 100k is INCORRECT! it says, "if mountainous, low speed & /or trailer towing causes higher temps, more frequent changes are needed." it doesn't say in the manual, more frequent changes are needed from what mileage. I was just making a comment on dealership service dept. Don't get so touchy & start flinging commernts at me either. I'm here to help also. We haven't seen ANYTHING yet to say the 100k is wrong & I had a wasted post

I would not wait longer than 50K or 3-4 years. Fluid breaks down because of time. If you wait till 100K, you might as well not change it at all or your transmission might start slipping.

I totally agreee russiandude. I know that I read that somewhere (on here somewhere) or in some literature back when I had the '07 RDX. I thought it was crazy 2! I promise to keep looking for the truth to the programmed mileage on the MID for the transmission, but even the manual said that under heavy use to change it earlier at 60k miles, then 30k there after, so that MAY indicate the 100k program, but I'm not swearing by it. I wouldn't want to waste some people's time , I just want to help ya, rd...I hope YOU know that!

yeah, Acura transmissions, they are pain in the as* ... I am on my second transmission for my 2001 CLS, dealer recommends 30K fluid changes, but manual recommends 30K for heavy use, and 90K for normal. anyway, Acura made some bad transmissions 00-03 for CL/TL.

Yes they did! So far, (knock on wood!!) the RDX tranny is doing great. Let's hope they learned their lessons!
