PROS
1) Price is right - less than 30K
2) Nice body
4) Good cargo space compared to others in its class
5) Good gas mileage - takes regular

CONS
1) Need to get the Limited to get a nice interior (even then, it still doesn't have all the features that Acura has)
2) Seems overpowered; too much power for the car (yet a V4 is too little)
3) Not as smooth as the Acura TL I have (I've been spoiled). However, not sure what the ride will be like with the RDX.

My practical side is saying - go with the RDX. But I don't want to regret it if the RDX comes out and I love it. So, I decided to extend my lease for another month, test drive the RDX and look at the pricing, then compare it to the RAV4 at that time. We'll see then.
See, now that's a savvy buyer. I like your thinking.

Thanks for the link. There actually seem to be a lot of V6 AWD RAV4 owners getting 16 - 18 mpg as well.

Since I started this thread, I thought I would let you all know what I decided. Yesterday I purchased a Steel Blue, 2006 Honda Ridgeline RTL, loaded with leather and sunroof. This was a tough decision but I am really happy with it. As of last month, I am a first time father and the room and utility of the Ridgeline sold me. Plus, it is just a tremendous value: I paid the Costco price (dealer invoice) - $2000 cash back. So, my $33,000+ truck ended up costing about $26,500. Wow. What would have ben a $575 payment is now a little over $400. I loved the look and options of the RDX but I became more and more convinced it wasn't for me -- the cost was prohibitive and those gas figures didn't help. Also, the fact that there will be little or no dealing on it was certainly a factor. (I called the Fleet manager at Acura and asked them if the RDX would have Costco pricing; needless to say he laughed.) Yes, I am getting 16/22 with the Ridgeline but with a LOT more room, towing capacity and a V6. Besides, in the end I think the difference in mileage will be negligible.

Anyway, I look forward to hearing on this site how the RDX turns out. Hope I don't have buyers remorse but after reading the pricing figures, I don't think I will. Thanks for all the great discussion!

Well, "sniff, sniff", I guess all good things come to an end. I thought some excellent points were made for the RAV4 and some excellent counter-points were made for the upscale items on the RDX. Let's revisit this issue after we've had a chance to test drive the new Acura. Good luck with your Ridgeline. PS Isn't Costco great?!

$33K - $37K for the new RDX?

RDX vs. RAV -- apples and oranges...

The new RAV V6 4WD has a real low gear (locking differential) so it has real off-road capability.

RAV has about 85-90% of the luxury features of the RDX but the RAV has a better balanced for on/off road capabilities. If you shop, you can probably get a nicely loaded limited RAV V6 for $24K-$28K.

I'm not sure why people are calling the RDX a SUV - its more of a large station wagon with AWD. Even the MDX is nothing more then a supped up Pilot with AWD.

Now that I've seen real production pictures of the RDX, I just can't imagine a dude driving a RDX.

My neighbor lady who is in the market for an AWD wagon wants to test drive the RDX and compare that to an AWD Subby Legacy.

RidgeLines are nice too. Put some aftermarket wheels on it and I'm sure it will look tough. I was in the same boat as you - I have the TL but needed a truck with room. I finally ended up getting a 4-door Tacoma.

The MDX has a completely different suspension on it than the Pilot as well as more power. They are on the same platform, so if that makes it 'souped up' then I guess cross-platform engineering is that.

The RDX looks very similar to the X3 and I see plenty of 'dudes' driving those.

I'm sure the Toyota people will be very happy with their Toyota.

RDX and X3 look similar?

Yeah, both have 4 wheels/tires, front and rear bumpers, hood, 4 doors, foglights, etc....

To each his own...

They are similar but with enough differences to make the RDX distinctive. BTW - My silver '06 TSX looks very much like a '99 Audi A4. Probably much more than a coincidence in both cases but who cares?
