Frequency for replacing oil filter

I use Mobil 1 M1110 Extended Performance oil filter for my RDX. I used to replace a new oil filter every time I do oil change. The system notifies me to do oil change for roughly every 3000 miles.

The M1110 Extended Performance oil filter guarantees filtering function for up to 15000 miles.

So do I need to replace the oil filter each time I do oil change ? Even though the filter costs just 12 buck, it's still a waste of resources.

Thank you !

whoa, you drive that hard and lots of city for the MID to warrant 3000 oil change intervals!?!??!??!?!?!

the MID calculates oil life based off of start ups, engine revs, and other factors.
with this in mind, you must be hitting VTEC ALL THE TIME, in the city.

most get 6000-7000 mile oil intervals.

if you read the manual, it will state that you do oil filter changes every other oil change.
Read it to make sure that Im not pulling that info out of my ass.

1G RDX and it's turbo...known for short OCI at least based on a thread i read about guys complaining about it.

My RDX is not driven *hard* but is mostly city driving, so a 4K OCI (oil change interval) is not uncommon. As for the oil filter, every other oil change would seem OK, regardless of the mileage, so long as the total filter usage-interval did not exceed 1-year. And I would not exceed every other oil change, even with a short OCI of 3K miles.

Also, if the oil filter is to be used more than 3 months, then I would use a filter with a partial synthetic medium, such as the Mobil-1 filter, and a filter that specifically states that the filter is rated for an extended service interval.

For example, be aware that the Classic Purolator filter recommended change interval is only about 3 months. Purolator makes a specific fully synthetic medium oil filter, recommended for extended service. Check the Purolator web site for more info.

I will note that I consider the RDX oil filter to be unreasonably small. So I also use magnets inside the filter. Because of the small filter size, the filter material/ medium is not very efficient at removing smaller particles, becuase that would limit the flow rate, so I don't think it likely that the filter will plug-up, even with an entended service mileage.

That is another reason to use a synthetic medium filter - they typically filter smaller particles, without limiting flow rate. In any case, I use magnets inside the filter, to help filter metallic particles.

To the op, I change mine every oil change, even though the manual says to change it every other. I use M1 oil and filter, costs ~ $40 total

Why put clean oil thru a dirty filter.
